Acústica Marina and Compañía Minera del Pacífico to Install the First «Smart Buoy»
At CMP’s Puerto Cruz Grande project, the first AI-powered «Smart Buoys» will be implemented. These buoys will detect marine wildlife and vessels through a Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance System (hydroacoustic MCV), generating real-time alerts focused on studying and conserving marine life.
This is the first port-mining initiative of its kind worldwide. By next year, four «Smart Buoys» are expected to be operational, with a total of ten planned for 2024 in the area to establish a monitoring network. This buoy network is a pioneering technology in both Chile and globally, designed to be scalable. It also presents the opportunity to create an acoustic soundscape, where visitors will be able to hear the sounds of the sea in a dedicated room that CMP will build and equip. This room will provide acoustic data for scientific and educational research for those visiting the area.
